Thinning Line Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Thinning Line

I don't recall,
Having nothing on my mind.
To find myself thoughtless.
Or unprepared to give an opinion.
If asked,
I would without hesitation...
Donate and volunteer,
That time to give.

But I must admit,
These days I am not so quick.
Since...
That line is getting thinner,
By the minute.
As to who I may offend.
Or who will defend,
My willingness to agree with them.
Without an argument,
They expect to claim I started.

"Don't agree with me! "

-But...
I do agree with you.-

"Why? "

-Why?
Because you are right.-

"Oh...
I get it.
You're doing that,
Reverse psychology thing on purpose.
Right? "

-Wrong! -

"I knew it.
I knew you had to find something 'wrong'.
Well...
Have it your way.
I'm not going to argue with you."

God?
I thank You for keeping my mouth shut.
As difficult as it was.
I hope I passed that test.
