Third City's Fling Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Third City's Fling

This real life and you
And you said 'Let's get matching tattoos and run away from our cities together to a third city where no one knows us'

And I assume
It's where wild west honor/word alliances are kept
And we count the hours with excruciating attention as if they were lashes from a whip
And I celebrate a night where I will not be getting into my time machine and watch a young man self-destruct

Enforced commitment nation and you
And you seductively murmured 'Let's sleep together to reject patriotism and then forget it ever happened.'
'Let's hope a third city buries our secrets'

And I expect
Tough luck to rush back in as if it had been on vacation
The halls to fill with shouting of false, forced fellowship
The fraternities and sororities of dorm-like despotic deception
Won't know anything about how we walked hand in hand without reserve in a third city
