Thiru Valluvar's Couplets On ' The Excellence Of Rain' Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Thiru Valluvar's Couplets On ' The Excellence Of Rain'

1. Unfailing rains flourish the world.
‘Nectar’, it is worthily called.
2. The rain makes tasty food to eat
and serves itself as a drink sweet.
3. If the monsoons play truant,
a lasting famine parches the sea-girt earth.
4. If the storm clouds shrink to pour,
the ploughers won’t till the land.
5. The rain failure ruins life.
To the ruined rise, it would fain rain.
6. If drops of rain from the clouds don’t shed,
hardly we see the sprout of grass rears its head.
7. If the storms of thunder and lightning refuse to burst
even the wealth of the ocean dwindles.
8. If heaven goes dry, festivals and worships,
won’t be here ever to gods.
9. No more gifts and penance in this world
if heavens cease to shower.
10.No water dooms the form of the world.
No rain brings no order in life.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Water is the elixir of life poured generously from Heaven/heavens! Since we get it free of cost, we tend to misuse and over use it. So it has become so costly! Beautiful pairs of couplets! !
