This Is Why I Pray Poem by Bernard F. Asuncion

This Is Why I Pray

This is why I pray
To the Lord God Almighty;
It's because of His command
That I call upon Him faithfully.

Not only weak but also frail I am,
Vulnerable to pain and sorrow;
But because of fervent prayer,
I won't wane but glow and grow.

Life is fraught not only by trial
But also by temptation;
With my plea begging for mercy,
God will hear my supplication.

I have sinned against the Lord,
Though it's not what I want to do;
Through the intercession of His Son,
I'm forgiven by the Father, so true.

How can I make both ends meet?
How can I have all that I need?
The loving Father is the sole provider,
My cry for help He'll surely heed.

Sickness spares no one,
Even the doctor gets ill;
The Lord is the perfect physician,
No disease He cannot heal.

For all the blessings He bestowed on me,
So much thanks I have to say;
In His holy temple He waits for me,
This is why I pray.
