This The Job I Have Picked Poem by Daya Nandan

This The Job I Have Picked

Chronic fatigue is killing me daily,
The lack of manpower is driving me crazy,
No time to eat, barely enough time to rest,
Birds of depression are slowly building up their nest,

Motivation to work fades with increasing misery and stress,
All the tiredness makes it so difficult to progress,
My body is weak yet i have to force it to work hard,
I have to force my tired mind to stay aware and on guard,

It is stressful watching my friends contemplate suicide,
Watching one by one give up after they have toiled and cried,
I try my best to help yet there is only so much i can do,
When bit by bit i can feel myself breaking down too,

So many quit, but i do not blame them at all,
Why overwork yourself until the point you break and fall,
Overworked and being underappreciated are common in this line,
No one really cares until they reach the final sign,

The bed i sleep on daily is the greatest joy i see,
Because i am so exhausted from all the work placed upon me,
Sometimes i have to choose between meals and sleep,
Sometimes i get hit so hard leaving wounds that run deep,

Like many before me i still stand to serve the my land,
Eventhough my own life easily gets out of hand,
My social life is crippled, my dating life is wrecked,
I sacrificed family time so that i can serve and protect,

Working 70-75 hours a week dealing with so many cases,
Dealing with people who don't care about you from different places,
Imagine forcing yourself to work daily at the break of dawn,
Only to return home once the sunlight has gone,

Please do your own research before picking your career,
For the stories on the media are never truly clear,
There is no glory in rank and status at the price of your life,
No amount of pride can heal the daily stabs from a knife,

Family comes first, you only have one shot at living on earth,
So ask yourself if such devotion is really of worth,
I do not encourage such devotion now that i know the price,
So when people tell you to get in this line, please think twice,
