This Torn Universe...... Poem by RIC BASTASA

poetry always starts
from a personal experience.
it is like a rib taken
from you and you feel that
emptiness after the poem
is drawn into another paper
like another soul.

it is like a dove from your
hand which you set free and
then it hovers in a tree and
looks at you. This time is
becomes another being and you
become strangers looking at
each other unable to remember
what happened before.

it becomes the bird of another
hand, that sets it free again,
until it becomes the universal
dove for all, and then you rest
on an easy chair looking at the
sky beyond your window feeling
the fullness of humanity where
you will always be a patch
in the cloth of this torn
universe.
