This Transition Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

This Transition

Is it,
Just a temporary visit.
With anguish to come.
And from sorrows to heal.
Left to reminisce.
But no longer to feel.

Old transitions to miss them.
Were not so abrupt.
To awaken anyone up.
Many had thought,
Them to be a natural progression.
Similar as if to graduate,
From one grade to another.
With steps made and lessons learned.

Those old transitions to miss them,
Made little difference.
Since they were slow.
And subtle were their changes.
Adaptable to adopt.
Like the invention of a broom.
Or a mop to clean a floor.
Leaving that chore to a child,
Who resents the labor of it.

But...
Neck breaking is the speed,
Are these days and times we live.
So quick that yesterday to have live it,
Few remember what took place.
Or what they ate served on a dinner plate.
And...
If anyone should dare to take cat nap?
They might awaken not to know,
Where they are at or how they got there.

Stopped!

A virus has caused an upheaval.
A pandemic has created shock.
Leaving slow movers,
Taking life for granted.
Panicked into a disbelief.
There is no escaping.
Freedom to experience,
Has everyone surrounded...
By death, sorrow, anguish and grief!

"What the ffff...,
WHAT IS THIS...THIS...! "

This transition.
Has everybody caught up in it.
And...
This transition,
No one on Earth can miss.

Gone and swift,
Is a normalcy to leave it.

Gone and swift,
Treasured values and beliefs.
Gone also are impressions made.
Restricted to keep a 'social distance'.
No one prepared or planned for these days.

Gone and swift,
Is a normalcy to leave it.

Has God done this,
To begin a new phase?
Nobody knows.
What is ahead.
Nobody knows.
This transition.

Has God done this,
To begin a new phase?
Nobody knows.
What is ahead.
Nobody knows.
This transition.
A transformation to have happen this quick.
Or why?
This transition.
A transformation to have happen this quick.
Or why?
This transition.
A transformation to have happen this quick!
