This Way Poem by Kewayne Wadley

This Way

When I looked out the window
I immediately thought about you,
My belief in brighter days.
It's not often that I get to see you
This way, in this very moment.
Miles above the ground, I grew
Impatient.
The urge to get back to you
Was imperative.
I could see you from here
but it wasn't enough.
I wanted to taste you, get out
& walk around in you.
Knowing that I belonged to you
Wasn't enough.
I had to feel you.
Knowing the last time I saw you wasn't
That long ago, it was long enough.
I saw the light of your smile &
Thought what I would do when we landed.
Before the baggage check, before the seat belt
Came off.
It didn't matter if the weather changed.
The turbulence of anticipation
Minutes away from landing.
What happened the last time we seen each other.
The clouds that appeared out of nowhere.
None of that mattered.
Seeing you brings out the best in me,
Seeing you, a brighter day is always within grasp.
No matter how long the flight
