I was a flower that she
tended to freely.
No matter how much I resisted
She'd sprinkle her words over
My head.
I grew alone,
Despite what the world saw
Despite what she saw.
Most times the only time I'd smile
Was when I was alone.
I'd never known the touch
of the sun nor
To be in the care of someone else.
She watered me with her words
Her tender affections.
But in actuality I was afraid,
Afraid that if I were to open up
My ray of sunshine would up &
walk away.
I grew alone despite what the world saw,
Despite what she saw
But deep down I didn't know
That I stunned my own growth
& How ugly I'd become.
Looking back on it
I learned that sometimes
All it takes is a kind word
& Someone willing to believe in you
