To Do It Standing Tall Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

To Do It Standing Tall

I've been a grown man since I was a child.
With chores, duties and responsibilities assigned,
I had to accomplish and achieve.
And I don't 'believe' this to be true.
It's a matter of fact I have lived through.

To witness adults,
Who are not grown men and/or women.
Bartering their accountability...
To escape what it takes,
To move forward without excuses...
Based upon their abilities.
Displeases my sensibilities.
Although others may find this common.

I have no patience with that at all.
I know too well what it is like...
To stand up,
And face any consequence.
And to do it standing tall.
