To listen is an act
of love, and to respond,
if you can go beyond
the platitudes of tact,
establishes the bonds
that last for nights and days,
acoustic getaways
more magic than most wands.
Charlie Rose interviewed Gregory Byrne, who plays the role of a psychotherapist in “In Treatment” on March 6,2008. Byrne reminded Charlie that Freud once said that the Irish were immune to psychotherapy, a point I had intuited when I had object to casting Byrne for the part. He also said: “To listen is an act of love.” It sounded particularly before spoken with his Irish brogue.
