To Observe Poem by Mario, Lucien, Rene Odekerken

To Observe

Rating: 4.0

When I look,
at the mysterious and mythical Moon
or at the wind, that blows through the trees
with a natural sensitivity
When I watch, the birds
that float in freedom through the sky
or the stars, that shine in infinity
When I look, at the plants and flowers
that grow and bloom in all their splendor
or the cows, who are grazing freely
on the green grass of the meadow
When I watch, the waves dancing to the rhythm
of the currents of the oceans
or the seals, who are resting
under the heat of the Sun on the sandbanks
When I look, at the night
how it honors the darkness
or the day, that absorbs the daylight
When I look, I realise how beautiful, unique
and unrivaled our planet is

But when I look, I also ask myself
whether, we the residents of this wonderful planet
realise and understand
that our consuming and narcissistic ways
affects the quality and viability of life on the planet
Which will ultimately result in a total destruction
of any form of life in the entire world
