To You My Feelings I Cannot Hide Poem by Gert Strydom

To You My Feelings I Cannot Hide

(for Annelize)

Outside I hear birds call in the twilight,
I wish you could now here reside,
where not you or I are to blame
and to you my feelings I cannot hide,

after years they do remain the same,
while I call on God's mighty name
where we live in dire and horrid times:
where war and high prices came.

How I wish this a better world to be,
a place where everyone could be free,
where no innocents die as war rages on,
or God is treated with great impunity,

how I wish you could be with me,
that we could live in great tranquility,
where we are apart and still one at heart
and it seems I have been away an eternity.

What I know and what I feel cannot be wrong,
I know in soul and spirit you are strong,
your voice cheers me up and makes my day
as somehow together we still do belong,

to me you remain great and fair,
the only one for who I do truly care,
with whom I want my life to spend,
as the past did we for each other prepare.
