Traffic Jam Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Traffic Jam

Traffic lights are a funny thing
People come and go.
Pausing momentarily.
Hesitantly accelerating in each lane
Caught behind slow moving cars.
While others dart on, by passing the speed limit.
Desperately trying to beat the light before it changes.
Bright colored orbs in quick flashes of Green Yellow and Red.
They are committed to their safe nature
But accidents still occur.
Due to impatience. Quick tempers.
Trying to beat the light before it changes.
Sometimes it holds a bit longer than most,
Sometimes the wait isn't so bad.
The mind works a lot like a traffic light
Some thoughts are free flowing while others
Are caught at the light. Reasonably waiting.
In a rush to get to their next destination.
18 wheelers trying to make their next appointment
To ease the bulk of their load.
An intersection of emotion, all getting off at the same exit
Of course not everybody abides by the rules of a traffic light.
Some drivers ease their way in line
Others quickly jump in front of other cars.
Causing a quick press of the brakes, Or the long press of the horn.
Profane words which induce a higher blood pressure
There are times when nothing is coming and the light holds
A bit longer than average.
Inching up closer, making sure the path is clear before running it.
Then of course that's when I'm blind sided by the thought of you.
