Trees Giving High Fives Poem by Denis Mair

Trees Giving High Fives

Rating: 5.0

(in response to Nico Vassilakis' poem 'Friends Is Trees'*)
.....................

Trees giving high fives is a sure sign of extendable, branching
groovitude,

not like the relentless betrayal we're seeing... one big gastroenteric tunnel

tattooed with outdated zombie chic scrambled new on the wall,

performative baditude confounding community, batshittery infecting consensus.

While claws thump out terror-chords on world-high Wurlitzer,

responsibility is hard to aim from window-slits of this fort fortified by meanness.

Intended destination transparency, where words sieve meaning,

disclosing venturesome steps outrunning automatic foreclosure elsewhere.

Yea-saying begins by strolling a street to which I gravitate,

ouija-boarding down curio aisles to see what in the world leaps out,

being charmed by any snippet that hints at its own sky,

when collected and assorted, they almost hang together in a life movie.

Catch fire to confide, but fancy-treaded soles guarantee no safety across Khumbu Icefall.

Strings of letters are downed telephone wires.

Compulsively strew them, because heirs of the scribal tribe bleed alphabetically;

get through with a message or not, the impetus will be enshrined.

Some strewing movements have more emo-kinetic flair than others.
