Troubled Times Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Troubled Times

(Coronavirus 2020)

Will the young never listen
Thinking themselves
Able to survive without harm
Selfishly refusing
Government and medical decrees
Wearing face masks, keeping distances
Not meeting in large groups.

Do they think themselves immune
Never able to be carriers
Spreading deadly virus
Infecting through selfishness
Elderly and vulnerable
Flooding hospitals
Sending thousands to mortuaries.

When will they understand
Humanity is in gravest peril
With virus spreading like wildfire
And accept world's population is one family
Brothers and sisters
Who together can stand and succeed
But divided will fall to the virus.
