Trying Poem by Timber Koleden

Trying

You're sinking 'neath the icy waves
Yet striving for the light of air and breath
You dove amongst rubble—a life to save
But now the body drags you down to death

You're trapped beneath the fiery brands
The sharp screams of those dear still in your ear
You said, 'I must go; the house yet stands.'
But now you will burn alone in fear

You're on your knees, sword lying hewn
The blood left your face as the light leaves your eyes
All around are your brothers' bodies strewn
And you will with them coldly lie

In the end you lost it all
But at least you tried
In the end you gave your all
With a love that never died

And in the end you may have lost
But all you lost was not in vain
You did your best, counted the cost
Still in the end you were slain
