Unavoidable War Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Unavoidable War

Outcome of war

Even though blessed with no death
Or at will till the last breathe
He has chosen not to leave the soul
The body is awaiting final call

His advice is not heeded
He regrets war order
The Truce between brothers is turned down
The fate is already known

“How many deaths” he visualizes destruction
“Oh, God grant some wisdom” but who follows instruction
Daily some death news are brought to him
The great warrior listens and watches the turn

“Was such outcome only goal”?
Was war so sweet to call?
He had no answer but to wait
The death was now near with such a fate

If war was the only option!
He thinks about internal satisfaction
If whole world is won but no soul to rule
Who has to go in for such a bloody war and be called fool?

*The character is named “Bhishma” from epic MAHABHARTA

A philosophical poem so nicely articulated in the backdrop of Bhishma, the eldest of them all, lying upon the death-bed of arrows and watching a great clan wiped out before his eyes. “Oh, God grant some wisdom” but who follows instruction.
