Unexplained Attraction Poem by Hercolena Oliver

Unexplained Attraction

You have the effect on me as not having to call to a homing pigeon,
Having unexplained attraction as a magnet would in unwritten religion,
Unwise allure as of a moth to a flame,
Recurring in thoughts as the seasons are but a game;

As compelling to visit as a bee cherishing nectar on a flower,
As attached to as one is inescapable from one’s own past and future even for an hour,
As inescapable as a fish inclined to swim in water alone,
As necessary as the air would be to a free bird in flight on own;

As much a part of me as the rocks in a cave main,
Unseen, yet visible, as a cloud formation that gives way to occasional rain,
Composite in my picture of life likened to paint’s combined effect on canvas and oil,
Penetrating much like the gentle rain on parched soil.

My feelings for you are as unexplained as the seven wonders of the world, you see,
More forceful and irresistible than a hurricane or thunderstorm would be,
Natural in comparison to a reserve for rare species, not to deny,
Part of my horizon such as the sunset hovering in an otherwise clear sky;

Brightening my day with a sunrise brightening a dismal cloudy sphere,
Containing the beauty and uniqueness of an almost extinct species here,
Startlingly exciting to observe similar to an island observed in an ocean expanse measure,
Being more precious than a rare gem and more exciting than a discovered treasure;

Fascinating comparable to silkworm and butterfly being one and the same in stages,
At the core of my being situated where would be the seed of a fruit though the ages,
Undiscovered, though sacred, resembling an unfound wonderland,
Enjoyable and enchanting for a time before freeing bird in hand;

Much looked forward to as a bright morning after a night’s tire,
An improvement in my life symbolized by a cold sphere warmed by a glowing fire,
Unreachable as a distant wishing star,
As close as you are distant, so near and yet so far.
