In my childhood I used to wonder,
why earth is not a single expanse
of plain land with all the greenery,
trees, shrubs that bore
fragrant colourful blossoms
tasty fruits and nuts
and flowers full of sweetest nectar.
My mother explained to me:
"it is like our life,
this moment you are happy,
the next, you may be not.
So there are hills, valleys, troughs
and big deep turbulent oceans
and mighty mountains immobile."
I did not understand
what she said then,
nor do I claim to know now.
But, looking back I think, my life
has explained it to me.
Yes, it's so. Life teaches us many things as we grow up. This is an excellent poem. Top score!
