Upside Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Upside

The upside to a downslide,
To experience this feeling done.
Has it advantages over the ones,
Who have not known shown obstacles.
Either to face or eliminate.
Yet claim to have had faith,
When munching on cake.
And spitting pits.
From a bowl of cherries.
Picked by someone else.
Specifically for their deliciousness.

The upside to one's downslide,
To have had sacrificed...
A doing successfully.
With steps taken to have earned...
From lessons unforgotten kept to learn.
Is not to take for granted,
Who offers their assistance.
With this to expect,
Them to forgive and forget...
Disrespect shown to them.
By those who perceived,
Their reach to heights...
Had alone been achieved!

"Well...
I see you are beginning,
To learn a few things about life."

-Yep!
And...
I want to thank you,
For the cake and cherries.-

"No problem at all."

-Why didn't you tell me,
You were the one...
Who baked the cake and picked the cherries?
And also recommended,
My rise to heights.-

"I expected you to say 'thank you'."

-If I had known...-

"What?
Respect?
Shown to others to get? "

-Uh...
Uh.
Yes, I guess.-

"I had to learn that lesson myself.
One never knows,
How many 'hats' another has earned to wear.
Or who decides,
Which tests to apply to have them passed."
