Urges Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Urges

Rating: 5.0

An impulse surging.
Coming too quick,
To prevent common sense...
Time to find being reasonable,
Unconvincing.
When...
Sitting near.
And held hostage.
Inside of the refrigerator,
A delicious pecan pie...
Is heard pathetically begging,
'Slice me.
Slice me,
Into nice healthy pieces.
Warm two of them,
In the microwave.
Release yourself, you must!
From this...
This...'

Temptation?

'Whatever!
Keep your mind focused,
On...pecan, pecan, pecan pie! '

Yes. Yes.
Your wish is my command.
To understand,
Your desire to please...
This craving I must obey!

'Don't forget,
The vanilla icecream.'

Thank you.

'I am here.
Whenever your urges,
Are in need of encouragement.
However...
The weight you gain,
Do not blame on me.
To have others believe,
You were victimized...
By a pecan pie.'

Thank you for that advice.
I'll just excuse it,
On this weakness I have...
For listening to pecan pies,
Suffer.
Begging to be smothered,
With vanilla icecream.

'Uh...
This personal reasoning,
Thing you do? '

Yes!

'I...
Have my doubts,
That the doing of it...
Has any benefit to you.'
