Value Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Value

For years I wanted you to hear me.
At least pretend to listen.
But this you didn't or refused to do.
For years I wanted you,
To hear what I had to say.
Instead of rudely interrupting.
Making my wanting you to listen,
To have that wish leave me wanted...
Decay to fade away.
Now it is you,
Wanting someone to listen and hear...
Something you say has never been so serious.
As if anything I had to say,
You abruptly dismissed.
To believe it was not worth your time.
Not to know how my time to value,
Is no longer there for you to take.
Since you've already shown,
What to appreciate to you that is given,
The value of it is not to you known!
