Vijaya And Dusserah Poem by Sumit Ganguly

Vijaya And Dusserah

In hazy past, evil forces ruled the land,
There was oppression, starvation and
Death, just as in Nazi camps.
Darkness loomed large, there was none to light lamps.
Iron hands were quick to arrest
Solo heroism or mass protest.
Major powers of the world converged
As Allied Force- named 'Doorga', who urged
The evil forces to surrender.
War broke out and continued for days together.
Oppressed countrymen supported the Allied Force
And offered all they could gather from meagre source.
Finally the evil powers succumbed, Doorga had victory
People celebrated vijaya, myth was born from history.

Some pious souls who couldn't fight
Prayed for victory through nine days, day and night.
When war was won at the end of rush-era,
People burned devil's-effigy and celebrated 'Dusserah'.

Today is the Vijaya and Dusserah day
Let us unite and pray:
May we win over evil powers
And be content with little happiness that life-showers.
