God works in us from
within outwards.
But all creatures work
from without inwards.
Thus it is that grace
and all the gifts of God,
and the voice of God,
that come from within,
in the unity of our
spirit, and not from
without, by means
of sensible images.
No external work can penetrate
the hidenness of God.
If you succeed in emptying
your mind of every thought
and every desire,
you may indeed withdraw into the
center of yourself and concentrate
everything within you upon the point
where your life springs out of God.

it occurred to me, after I left my last comment, tony, that perhaps my poem coming up for air is related to what you say in the last stanza of this poem of yours. -glen
hi, tony! in response to the title of this poem, amen! this affirms my experience. and it follows that God, who is spirit, speaks (most often) to our spirits. but whether God speaks or not, whether I hear God, is beyond control, yes? otherwise we could dictate to God and we might have reason to boast. -glen
