Imagine a great classical archway
that rises on two sides
and meets at the center
in the keystone at the apex of the arch.
The left side represents vocal prayer,
the right side contemplative prayer
that begins with meditation.
In a balanced spiritual life
both grow and rise to perfection
simultaneously meeting
in the keystone which is God.
Both are essential in an
authentic life of prayer,
as can be seen in the life
of Christ and all the saints
in all religions which sought
contemplation and mystical union.
Vocal prayer, and contemplative prayer that begins with meditation are essential in balanced spiritual life. A beautiful poem with nice ideology.10

tony, i find this poem interesting in its content and where it sends my thoughts. jesus explains that God knows our thoughts even before we speak them. yet he prayed out loud, expressed his desires that others may hear. as example only? or because sometimes we just need, as humans, to voice our prayers. these days i mostly express my prayers inside myself, trusting God will hear. but sometimes i need to speak them aloud. -glen
