War And Peace Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

War And Peace

Rating: 5.0

Warmonger is a misnomer
Nobody likes a war
But for a few power-hungry
Dictators and politicians.

In the name of patriotism
These parasites promote
Animosity among people
Instead of universal brotherhood.

But the misery it causes
To common man
Is unfathomable and
Beyond words to explain.

Bloodshed without purpose
Human lives sacrificed
Homes and livelihoods lost
For reasons unknown.

The monies collected from
Peace loving citizens as taxes
Are spent on arms, but not food
And the rulers earn commission.

The arms are used against
The citizens whose taxes paid for it
Or people of another country,
And get the same in return.

War causes no hardships to the rulers
That is why they make more wars.
Who suffers is common man
Of this country or the other.

" The arms are used against /The citizens whose taxes paid for it ": The Putin dictatorship has shot and killed many people who protested against his war on Ukraine. The arms and ammunition were made using the taxes paid by those who were killed too.

We live in a time, when, to be alive itself is a luxury.
