Watchman Poem by Rob Lamberton

Watchman

Rating: 5.0

Have you left your watch
As the night grows late
Where are your thoughts
Are they on your fate

Have you left your watch
As you work and play
Forgetting so much
At the close of day

Are you on the watch
To prevent a fall
At the ends approach
Did you give your all

Are you on the watch
Keeping thoughts at bay
Do you know whose touch
Will have it's way

Who shall you watch
As the night moves on
On those He's bought
For the break of dawn

Who shall you watch
Will it be your own
Or Him who died
For you all alone

Will you keep your watch
Till the break of day
Or fall to sleep
As it comes suddenly

Will you keep your watch
Over purchased souls
Or be drunk with life
Pursuing your own roll

FINAL COMMENT: I like all your poems, they seem so 'simple' (forgive me for this use) BUT they are in fact ALL MASTERPIECES. You can guess why I say so

This is a powerful reminder to guard not only our hearts but others as well from the snares of sin. Too easily do we fall asleep and grow drunk on the earthly pleasures of this life, may God give us strength to remain faithful. Fantastically penned!
