We Are Poem by Paul Butters

We Are

Rating: 3.5

We are,
Because we are.
It happened:
Big Bang,
Each birth
And hatching
And sprouting forth.

We don’t know why,
Or how,
Or for how long:
I hope eternal.

Just knowing
I think
That no-one in this realm
Of Ours
Has so far escaped from Death:
Except, for now, the oldest tree.

I Sit in hope that beyond
The beyond
Salvation lies
In wait
For us.
