We Were So Free Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

We Were So Free

Rating: 5.0

Could you and I go somewhere
On a Sunday afternoon?
Downtown perhaps?
And look for a dress you need to get
For that hot date, next weekend
I am just sitting here thinking about how it was like
Before the pandemic
We were so free
Remember, when we went to the Beaches
Looking for another skirt
But therewas nothing you liked
And then, we decided to go to
That bookstore where I spent
A hundred and fifty dollars on
Just books of poetry
And the clerk who rang me up
Was sizing you up
Those were the days I will never forget
Only if, the summer look so promising
I wouldn't complain

Did you really spend that much money just on poetry books? If so, I hope you baought at least one by Billy Collins!

A hopeful write! Bookstores, poetry and beaches, lolling in those pandemic free waters. Those days will be back soon!
