What A Waste Of A Perfectly Good Girl Poem by Hannah Diane Williams

What A Waste Of A Perfectly Good Girl

"What a shame,
Waste of a perfectly good girl, "
You say because you see the way
she spreads her legs for all the wrong guys,
But what you don't see is that she's trying to fill the hole in her heart.

And you might see the way,
UThe cuts shine on her arm,
Crimson and jagged,
And you might thing she just wants some attention,
But what you don't see
Is that is the only form of numbing relief that has always been there for her.

And you might see the way she refuses to eat her dinner every night,
And you might think she's just trying to get skinny,
But what you can't see is the destruction those comments made so long ago did to her poor, pathetic soul.

And you might see the way she chugs drink after drink,
Falling over and giggling after a few too many,
And you might think she can't handle her liquor,
But what you can't see is the reason she drinks so much of a beverage that can do irreparable damage to her memory: there are some things she would rather
Forget.

And you might see the way she runs to the bathroom after every meal,
And comes out with red, puffy, tear stained cheeks,
But what you can't see is the guilt she's trying to rid herself of
Because she thinks she shouldn't be allowed to eat.

And you might see her writing in her journal,
And you might even read this poem and think you know her,
But the truth is,
You don't know her.
Hell, you never could, because in order to know her,
You would have to stay in her life
No matter how many times she tried to push you away.
And no one in her life has ever done that so why would you?
