What Can I Say To Mary? Poem by Heather Z. Hanna

What Can I Say To Mary?

What can I say to Mary?
She has found a lump.
It's meaning is scary.

She says this time it's painful.
The testing begins
Mammogram disdainful.

She is angry, frightened and sad.
A hollow inside.
This shouldn't happen, it's bad!

Everything she must go through,
It's all in her head,
The memories ten years new.

I want to hold her hand
And give her a hug
For each step she must take.

I cannot stop what's happening.
We cannot run away.
So stay and face each day.

And travel this difficult road.
One moment, one minute, one hour, one day.
One step at a time, all the way.
