raat ko sotay uth baithana
aur dundhli roshni main dekhna.
waqt safed hai
macHar kaat rehay hain
meri saari zinggi barbaad hue paDi hai

khayal jo bahut dukh deta hai:
kaisay ho tum, kuch bhi nahin.
kisi ki dharam patni baithi hue
shikayat kartay jal rehi hoon
yehi sub kuch main ne seekha hai
meri saari zindgi tabah ho chuki hai

sarhaney si komal, phooli hue
bina khoon k saans na le sakti hue
ghar ki cHoti cezzaiN uthaee hue -
dariaN, plataiN
bench, macHliaN
meri zindgi saaro tabah hue paDi hai.

What horror to awake at night
and in the dimness see the light.
Time is white
mosquitoes bite
I've spent my life on nothing.

The thought that stings. How are you, Nothing,
sitting around with Something's wife.
Buzz and burn
is all I learn
I've spent my life on nothing.

I'm pillowed and padded, pale and puffing
lifting household stuffing—
carpets, dishes
benches, fishes
I've spent my life in nothing.
