Whatever Examples Are Set Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Whatever Examples Are Set

Whatever the examples set.
By those looked upon as leaders.
And followed to expect,
Them to be knowledgeable.
Considerate and thoughtful.
With every step to take.
Provides the results,
Most agree and anticipate...
An outcome that is favorable.

However...
When many ultimately,
Find excuses to make.
And deny in disbelief,
The truth of reality they face.
This to do and refuse,
A doing that has been permitted.

Yet...
Always there are many,
Who choose to believe themselves exceptions.
Those who claim with a placing of blame,
On others to be responsible.
And accountable for being absent.
When they should have been,
Monitoring their every move.
Nodding in approval or disapproving actions.
With raised eyebrows as if teachers in school.

Whatever the examples set.
And found limited in competence.
By those followed and allowed to lead.
Although protesting against,
Their lack of ability to meet...
The needs of the people yelling profanities.
Disbelieving they have been deceived.
Does not for one moment in time,
Remove a responsibility to place somewhere else.
Or hope one day...
Those accused to fault and place blame to claim,
Will come forward in tears.
Admitting their feelings,
Of being haunted by guilt, remorse and treachery!

It is unlikely,
These kinds of prayers will be answered.
But who knows.
So many witnessing to live,
In such tumultuous days...
Could have found delusion.
In an alternate Universe!
Giving them reason to dismiss,
Reality and truth for what it is.
