When Is Love Enough? - Poem by Diamond Jones

When is love enough?

dedication
trust
understanding
loyal ty

when is that enough?

sincerity
honesty
openness
transpare ncy
compassion
forgiveness
truly caring about someone's wellbeing
inseparable
through thick and thin

when is that enough?

friendship
kinship
partnership
toget herness
camaraderie
having each others back
building each other up
holding each other down

when is that enough?

never

only when you have
competition
stability
money
conn ections
pull
whats-in-it-for-me

mixed with
deception
hidden agendas
cruel intentions
nastiness
secrets
lust
sel fishness
neglect, hurt, and pain

that which takes the place of love
and makes you feel dead and empty
lonely and barren
burnt and inadequate
unwanted and distant
scared and closed

that is when it is finally enough
