One of the greatest discoveries in the history of mankind,
That enabled us to see at night when we were almost blind,
The discovery of fire, it helped early man very much,
A weapon against predators that can scorch in a single touch,
We used it to cook food back then and we still do today,
We lit a campfire each night to keep nocturnal predators at bay,
It prevented us from freezing for its heat kept our bodies warm,
And through this new technique did the world we live in transform,
Because of this man now set out to cooler climates to breed and grow,
We spread across the entire globe with the help of its magnificent glow,
And because that we evolved to adapt to many different regions of earth,
Isolated populations evolved differently as generations of humans were given birth,
That is why we are so diverse with different cultures and so many races,
Adaptation for survival changed our skin tone as well as the structure of our faces,
We have climbed high in the hierarchy of life and will keep going higher,
But all of it was only possible when early man discovered fire.
