When We Take Our Last Breath Poem by Phil Yates

When We Take Our Last Breath

Its not like the climate has give us no warning
Ice fields melting temperature rising
Forests felled of the air where breathing
The species gone from greed growth and hunting
Water now vital Witch we keep on polluting
Rivers run dry for dams crops and irrigating
The ozone hole growing skin cancer rising
Waste management failing more recycling
- - —
The rich and the poor devisions widening
Half the world fat millions spent on dieting
The other half hungry disheveled and dying
Media reports short seems no one is listening
More interest in what the film stars are wearing
Tears shed on tv for seemingly nothing
Try to live your life in a desert dwelling
Their country in tatters civil war fighting
- - - -
Terrorist Bombs innocent children crying
Wars over borders, old hatreds, religion, tyranny and lying
Soldiers dye on the fields while leaders keep talking
You'd think after 40,000 years we'd have learned something
They chant for their freedom but their cultures disappearing
But the Invaders are only interest is oil and mining
But we turn a blind eye or they'll stop trading
Preach human rights until it starts costing
- - - -
Dictators run rife while the oils they're supplying
Politicians make promises to keep the voters voting
Tell you they'll give heaps but in the end up lying
How can they be trusted with so much infighting
But what do they care for when retiring
TheirPension guaranteed win loose in the polling
Homes and cars reposed power price hiking
What you could once afford until interest rates rising
- - - -
Stockbrokers with billions, the next day with nothing
Big pay cheques for the millions they're making
No conscience they have for people's life savings
5% growth each year to keep the economy rolling
Unemployment sky high big business outsourcing
Can't work out they sack the people that were buying
Executives tell you can't afford the wages they're paying
Big salary's for them unanimous in the board room meeting
- - - - -
Third world country's make the clothes we are wearing
Factory's collapse on the people hard working
Big brand name take no blame for the conditions they work in
Internet scammers the grief you are causing
Crime rate gets higher society collapsing
When caught in the act let of with a warning
Murderers and rapists want there rights after jailing
It's not their fault they say its in their upbringing
- - - -
Drug dealers couldn't give a dam about the brains there're cooking
Supplied buy the cultures who preach its wrong to be using
Or drug lords who make big money on the misery they're causing
Do users know the money they're wasting
The hurt to they're body too young to be ageing
The distress they cause robbing and bag snatching
Or sell they're body so cheap prostituting
And after the high are they really enjoying
- - - - - -
Animals trained and caged for the public viewing
Like were doing them a favour for the feed were providing
And now hunted not for the meat we are eating
But for the horn on there head for our sexual gratifying
Where they once ran wild their habitat dying
We try and do so much to keep the species living
Turning back time on the damage men causing
It's all much too late naively keep trying

Natural disasters many thousands are dying
All you here on the news is the cost of rebuilding
Insurance companies won't pay says its all in the spelling
The sun will burn crops while the population exploding
The air that we breath will no longer be freshening
Breathtaking scenes no longer worth viewing
Sea levels will rise taking land we are harvesting
How long will our oceans take the plundering
- - - - - -
Money power greed and hypocrisy has taken over our living
It's our own future relations sons daughters were hurting
Drag it from the earth with no thought of replenishing
This planet wont survive the way we've been threatening
Advances in medicine will all add to nothing
So many advances but backwards we're going
Lets take the steps and try do something
Before it's too late with no chance of retuning
- - - - - -
It's good to be cool but what's wrong with smiling
Lets start talking peace lennons words calling
Lets Spend money on food instead of the waring
Stop polluting the this planet it's the only one we live in
Our future depends on today's decision making
Will all this fall on deaf ears or will we start caring
Remember with our last breath you go out with nothing
Just the memory we leave so make it worth something
