When We Were Young Poem by G J Salgado

When We Were Young

To take a walk
Amongst the company
Of those that talk
In circles all around me

They seek a certain darkness
Because they want to escape the light
Yet they know not of the consequence
As it seems to follow them during the night

When the rain pours down upon them
The beauty and magic suddenly disappeared
Everything that they were was lost within
Becoming all that we had ever feared

A standing ovation I gave for mercy
You were my greatest escape
Just a disappointed memory
I fell to my knees in disgrace

I no longer adored who you were
Choked and vomited at the thought of it
You promised you would have remorse
But empathy left you behind without regret

I felt and witnessed the changes
You and I were no longer alive or free
Our life ended from what it rearranges
You weren't you and I wasn't even me

How will we find our way back
Unsure if we can ever get a way out
Feeling my heart slip away by your attack
Following by lack of life and all doubt

Then just as I had almost given up on you
Hope had found us once again
Your magical beauty came through
We returned as we were in the end
