Where Has My God Gone? Poem by Prem Nizar Hameed

Where Has My God Gone?

At a small dream project meeting,
Mr. X asked me a question:
"Where has your God gone? "
I was speechless for a few moments

My first personal opinion:
God stands beyond the definitions of
All the prevailing Religious Books

The second one is that:
The Holy Books may be different,
But God is not different from one another;
And no one can claim to have a monopoly on God
Because God is for each and every living thing,
And hence is omnipresent.

However, regaining the presence of mind,
I advised him to lodge a complaint,
If he was so concerned about my missing God
At the nearest police station;
And a habeas corpus writ petition also in this regard.

As decided, we went together to the police station
And Mr. X submitted his complaint, which read:
"Where has the God of Mr. so and so gone?
Does the God stay safe at Holy Homes?
Or in Scriptures or in quarantine with Godmen?
Neither my perceptions
Nor the GPS fails to track"

After having read the complaint,
The officer called his assistant and ordered:
"Keep this complaint under that of Kabir Das,
Not with the other missing cases."

He then assured us to look into the matter seriously

"Sir, when should I come to follow this? " Mr. X asked

"Will inform you as soon Kabir Das case is finalized"

I could foresee a procrastination, but kept quiet.
While coming out of his office,
We went to his assistant and had a friendly talk:

"Who is Kabir Das? Why he connects this case with him, Sir? "

"As you know, the devotees choose different ways
To reach the final destination of God"

"Yes, but some of them fight one another
On those different ways, too"

"Yeah, Kabir Das had once told man
That his/her God is in his/her heart
Like the fragrance in a flower;
But he/she is still looking for God
Like the musk deer searching for its own musk"

"Oh, Kabir Das, the poet"

"Yeah, this is the long pending case with my boss,
For which he has no valid evidence found so far,
Not even the so-called signature of God
That normally leads to such investigations"

"If someone's heart decays, what to do? "

"Frankly speaking, the decadence of the heart
Is worse than that of the body;
God does not like ambience of that kind"

"In that context, is humanity the living image of God? "

He pondered for a while, and affirmed:
"Yes, of course! Even an atheist, a rationalist,
Or an agnostic can feel God in that"

"Shall I then withdraw my complaint, sir? " Mr, X intervened

"Not necessary. Let him investigate it.
Maybe he would find anything new
Which our perceptions could not reach so far;
After all, investigation is not at all a sin"
