Why Are We Here? Poem by Sarah Ferguson

Why Are We Here?

Rating: 4.0

Why are we here?

Alone the question pounds.
Always pulls me away from myself.
To this question I am bound,
How life is wondrous and profound.

Why are we here?

My mind races at the thought.
Feelings of wonder and fear.
Impossible to comprehend,
You have your family to tend.

Why are we here?

The mystery surrounds me.
Everywhere I look.
Don't get lost again,
Never say amen.

Why are we here?

Perplexity must end.
Forget you asked.
Cease the strife,
Move forward with your human life.

The poem, with a repitative question-'Why are we here? ' - makes us think about our existence and our role in this world. Although a straight forward answer is not given yet a direction is, and that is: 'Perplexity must end. Forget you asked. Cease the strife, Move forward with your human life.' - Simply wonderful! But I am not too happy with these two lines: 'I guess I shouldn't care, I'll just worry about my hair.' - These looked not natural, but acquired, to force a rhyme.

A very rational and logical way to look at life. Yet a different way. Wonderful thinking and excellent write.

Why are we here? Perplexity must end. Forget you asked. Cease the strife, Move forward with your human life. I'd rather move forward with both the question and my human life!

Yes, a secular question with no answer, yet always bothersome. Beautifully written. Well done.
