Why Do I Pray? Poem by Loyd C Taylor Sr

Why Do I Pray?

Rating: 5.0

I often have wondered why it is
that I spend so much time in prayer.

As I pondered this thought, the question
came to my mind, 'Why pray? '

So I reasoned that…

I pray when I cannot do anything else.
I pray because I need help from Someone
Greater than me, mightier than me,
More knowledgeable than me. I need someone
Who can deal with my circumstances,
And knowing that drives me to prayer.
I pray because it gives me an audience
With the Supreme Being of the universe.
I pray because it feels right, and
Because it is the right thing to do.
I pray because at times it's all I can do.

As I pondered more, a voice seemed to say
to me,
'Keep praying, keep believing and keep
Trusting, but remember,
Communication is a two-way street,
For you should also listen to what
God is saying to you.
Listen good so He does not have to
Speak twice, and you may find that
Your prayers will need to be fewer.'

Prayer usually is the last resort for most people. We can't fix our problems, so we appeal to a higher power for assistance. It does feel like the right thing to do and provides a measure of comfort. Even if our prayer is not answered, we feel we did all that was possible to remedy the situation. It's just a good feeling - and such a good poem!

A great motivational piece. Love it! For you should also listen to what God is saying to you. Listen good so He does not have to Speak twice, and you may find that Your prayers will need to be fewer.' Thanks for the wisdom of it.

If praying gives you comfort, I'm all for it!

Good prayer is a heart to heart communication with God...! . As in any other communication, to be a good listener is important... But unfortunately you and I submit our petitions before God and never bother to listen to what He has to say.....! Loyd, you have been so very sincere in your admission here...' I pray, because at times, it's all I can do'. At moments when we do not know what to do, we pray to get some guidance! Everyone does that! Enjoyed this poem much! Thanks for your beautiful comment on my poem!
