Wildlife Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Wildlife

Everyone expects to see tigers in the bush
Everyone expects to see sharks beneath the surf
I expected spontaneous encounters with random wildlife in the area
No refunds granted when none of this occurred

Take those binoculars and put them back in your bag
Go home and watch other human beings drive by in their cars
Make judgments about them based on the states of their cars

Will soothe you with cheeseburgers and potatoes
And excess of sensation in the place of experience
Patio girls and boys put all the furniture on the front lawn and felt closer to the natural world

They promised you real life sightings of rare exotic creatures
Like the man who wasn't on social media and paid no attention to this unreal culture
I've got my hang-ups and another birdwatcher noted them down in their notebook
