Willful Destroyers Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Willful Destroyers

When has racism not been a factor.
And used as if plaster.
To fill cracks denied but seen,
In an aging foundation.
Beginning to crumble from outdated beliefs.
As thieves of truth and reality,
Use racism to deceive.
To have it believed that a greatness achieved,
Had been accomplished without the deeds,
Of those enslaved.
And others of color who paved the way.
To make it okay.
For those to reach heights,
On the backs of those nonwhite.
But have made it alright for themselves,
To portray kings and queens.
As well as descendents,
Of symbolized religious deities.
Representing the best of bigotry and hatred,
Image and material ideals can buy.
Yet not to think of themselves,
As wilful destroyers of humanity.
To eventually eliminate themselves.
With inflicting their own conflicting mentalities.
And...
With deluded consistency.
