Women Still Lagging Behind Poem by Asit Kumar Sanyal

Indian women managed to break many barriers
imposed by male dominated society
but they failed to do so
in financial sector
they are still weak in financial knowledge
and financial activities
no doubt they are in flock
in finance and insurance
but very little in management
and senior positions
fewer ratios in entry,
discrimination in promotion
put them behind.

There are so many differences
between men and women
biologically and socially
some aspects of the male-female roles
intrinsically fixed by nature
women are genetically the child bearers
they are cautious, want security
more interested in ecology, ethics
and micro credits
but less in financial matter
men are financial daredevils
like risk
and its reflect in investment behavior
financial matters
and risk management.

Over time
this difference will decline
but not disappear soon
in last decade
women improved their representation
in finance and insurance sector
by five percent
jumped from fifteen to twenty
but still lagging behind
my daughter-in-law says
men buy shares from Mars
and women open saving a/c in Venus.
