Words Poem by Bipasha Dutt

Words

Rating: 5.0

words,
how inadequate they are
to express the intense emotions.

words,
how ineffective they are
to share the deepest thoughts.

words,
how insufficient they are
to convey the innermost feelings.

words
become insignificant
when intimacy grows.

and i think, bipasha, that those of us who write poetry might be most keenly aware of the inadequacy of words. i resonate especially with the last stanza, whether the intimacy be with human or God. this poem of yours reminds me of mine titled, rain prayer; i think you'll see where they are similar. -glen

Part 2 No doubt Kaalidasa is the best poet I have read. And he wrote so little, just five or six books. And for these a few books, the entire world still remembers him, adores him.... a true genius. You reminds me of him, the great poet, in your brevity, in so few poems, coming after long intervals, in the depth of the ideas and expressions... Great! A 100++

I do not know what to say... Thank you for such kind words. Yes, I post after long intervals, not skilled enough to write poems every day :) Moreover, I can not write about anything unless I have experienced or felt something deeply. Thank you once again for such a heart warming comment.

I just made a revisit. Your poem packs a lot of ideas and thoughts in so little words. Reminds me of Kaalidasa’s poems. He never used a word more than that is adequate to express himself. Never wasted a word. Always used the best word that could express the idea best. And never used a figure of speech, unless it augmented the theme. Contd...

Hi Bipasha, Vow! Profound analysis of the adequacy and relevance of words and a fantastic poetical expression. Reflective of Rabindranath Tagore who wrote, “That words have meanings is just the difficulty. That is is why the poet has turn and twist them in meter and verse, so that the meanings are somewhat restricted and feelings are allowed to express themselves.” (Quoted from my memory. The poet would have stated it differently, but same idea) .

This is a great compliment. I have read and heard Tagore's Bengali poems and songs from childhood, may be unconsciously I am inspired by him.
