X Marks The Spot - Poem by Ted Sheridan

My gracious
Just look where the time has gone
I’ve been up all night long reading her suicidal letters
Narcissistically composed while eating a bottle of No Dose
And staring at her naked body
Every other minute or so in the mirror above her death bed
As she peered down the barrel of an unregistered thirty eight
Left to her by her ex-lover and the husband she never had
Just in case she needed to protect herself from men
Who would intentionally cause her harm
Because they didn’t understand
What she wanted from them
Love and affection for her afflictions…
Now she demands that I pay her some attention
By pointing a gun to her head
She writes X marks the spot....
