You First Have To Know!
in order to break
the chains of bondage,
you first have to know
that they're there.
you have to feel them
cutting into your flesh.
you have to feel,
and to name,
the weight of oppression.
a bird that's never known
life outside the cage,
has no idea what freedom is!
a man whose feet
are buried in the ground,
can never touch the sky!
