O these fleeting, fresh joys of green summer,
And restless, fashionable, bright young flames,
Lack the weight and wisdom of the centuries.
They merely skim the surface of things.
For them Beauty's worth is only skin deep.
They're blithely unaware of life's dark depths.
Yet soon they will age and realise as
Soren Kierkegaard once sadly prophesied:
That inevitably, the constant search
For novelty, leads to the threshold of despair.
Well I guess old Soren hit the nail on the head there then. Your poem and his sentiments/thoughts I can most certainly do more than just lean towards. It's spend, spend, spend and keeping up with the gizmo and social standing Joneses and no wise thoughts for their future. But there are thankfully a few out there Dominic, with their heads screwed on.10++ Many thanks and added to my food for thought favs.
A great wisdom along with common sense penned into this poem Dominic. Well done.

Thanks guys as far as wider society is concerned with its sham politics, cut - throat captilaism etc. there doesn't seem to be a way out, although there seems to be a great appetite for change. Personally, I'm just happy to go about my day and march to the beat of my own drum...let the rest take care of itself...or not as the case may be.
