Pondering Portrait Poems

Crying out to be heard
But taunting echoes scream back
A reminder of my abandoned self
In this hollow emptiness I yield
...

2.

Why can’t you look at me?
Why can’t you see?
These tears that glisten
So shamelessly
...

I hope you’re happy
When you see her smile
Illuminating up your world
Left breathless all the while
...

What does it mean
When someone
Can break your heart?
When they do it
...

Dimness clouds awareness
Concealing groping eyes
From registering any truth
That’s been smothered by it
...

6.

Buried amidst time past
And memories long replaced
Within the tunnels of my mind
Is the ghost of your face
...

Ghostly images of the past
Special memories here to last
Like a pleasing aroma of pleasure
A shard of my life, I’ll always treasure
...

Withered pain
Torn out thoughts
Refusal to embrace
The threads of destiny
...

Untouchable, unreachable
A place unknown
Never conjured up
But one i proudly own
...

With heavenly grey skies
And their presence till tomorrow
With a depthless darkness
And the endlessness of sorrow
...

What keeps him walking
Through the path of thorns
Without ever stopping
And his feet all worn
...

A ferocious dream
Sparked by imagination
Harboured by a desire
Never to be fulfilled
...

A still emptiness
Within my mind
No longer in its presence
Is a lost memory
...

A stolen treasure
That does not belong to me
That should never be mine
But that I’ve claimed
...

Whistling whispers past my ear
Too undefined for me to hear
Though felt through my every sense
In agony, a mind in repentance
...

Gentle, crumpling rippling
Crushing across the surface
Wave upon wave, again and again
Giving a blurred reflection
...

Hopeful eyes, twinkling
Upon a lifelike dream
But crumbles to the touch
Sadly not what it seemed
...

18.

A broken smile
One that reveals
An unfortunate trial
That I hadn’t asked for
...

Hiding behind lies
Shrinking away from truth
Shielded by denial
From what they know
...

I made up this story
Inside my head
Living it’s tragedy
And dark thoughts I’d tread
...

Broken Spirit

Crying out to be heard
But taunting echoes scream back
A reminder of my abandoned self
In this hollow emptiness I yield

Pulled out threads, one by one
Tearing my will to the ground
Left with a heap of confusion
Too vast to sort through

The dreary weight of my conscience
A burden upon my shoulders
Of what I’ve turned away from
Refusing to embrace it

A broken spirit all that remains
Nothing but a shattered reflection
As I unwillingly stare into them
Portraying what I’d dare not see
