Richard Stopps Poems

In a town called Grimsby
Lived a man with his boots.
Sometimes he wore blue jeans
And sometimes wore suits.
...

Have you ever walked far with a wet dog?
Known the strong smell of his musk and mire?
Have you wondered if your dog could sense,
Could he ever know, your fervent heart's desire?
...

We think of 'Lottie's' life as untimely brief;
But this existence of ours, is as transient as autumn clouds.
To have watched her birth and death was like looking at lightning.
Her lifetime was a spectacular flash of light in the darkened sky.
...

In the bush south of Chapleau
Two stormy portages away,
Stood a Golden Dog 'Brandy'
Under ashen skies grey.
...

Niven's a Golden gone
To pleasant meadows far away?
Golden his memories with each dawn
His Rainbow's not so far as Galloway?
...

Today I posted too Boistrous, Bellicose,
And got home late to see my wife & dogs
I cuddled puppies of Abbey's whelp
Scolded 'Buddy' at the orchard's edge
...

He did not know which way to go?
On mountain high, capped cold with snow.
His matted hair tossed to and fro,
He did not know which way to go.
...

Frassa stayed goodly years
Blessing all that ever met.
Those days were idyllic, glorious
For this Champion and this Pet.
...

WHEN I was young, I dwelt in Vale
By a misty fen lit by a moon so pale.
And thus it was that I first met Ben,
Whose heart and hame were waiting then
...

You fill my moments,
With the warmth of your love.
The winds howl.
Snowy whalebacks drift the laneways.
...

To stand north faced with arm's stretched
Embracing the warmth of the golden sun
Our life itself casting Time's shadow
O'er runes on earth's own ellipse.
...

Pear blossoms white as new fallen snow,
Blanketed orchards of new growth.
Apple blossoms pink just burrsting
Freshly scrubbed faces
...

Ruben could clearly speak directly to your heart
Amazing really that unspoken tie that bound without utterance
Your heart to him, and He to you.
For those 14 years can be an eternity... until it ends

Tween the waters of the Speed and Eramosa
Lies Guelph (one romantic town)
Dominated by the Tower of 'Our Lady'
And the University's 'Cap n Gown'!
...

Why regret her passing?
Yes, 'way too soon', but
Such is LIFE.
The most beautiful apple blossom
...

He pillaged prose
Dabbled in verse
Of His life, some was good
And some was worse!
...

She 'prissed' and fussed, it was her claim
That her house was clean when the 'reaper' came.
Her heart was gold (or so it seemed)
But she missed the reaper's limousine!
...

I do not tell my spouse or children that I love them,
Only for them to be reassured or delighted;
But rather, to remind myself of both a JOY,
and an obligation I bear toward them.
...

20.

Rose

O sweet rose, blooming a short season in our lives.
Hope in the wait, that you might stay a longer summer

The Best Poem Of Richard Stopps

My Life Ever Changed By Dogs! ! !

In a town called Grimsby
Lived a man with his boots.
Sometimes he wore blue jeans
And sometimes wore suits.

From an old sweaty sweatshirt
To starched shirt with tie
His beard was all trimmed
When he caught 'The Saint's' eye.

She was lookin' him up
And lookin' him down
Whatever she saw there?
Was a mystery about town.

With pocket protectors
He looked like a Nerd.
And his plastic (taped) glasses
Were totally absurd.

His socks sometimes tattered
Oft not a pair
Hiding under those boots
Unseen without care.

He sold her a puppy,
(Golden Retriever by breed)
She loved that dear puppy,
So he'd planted the seed!

Her love of puppies
And whelping and things
Soon begat more love
And exchanging of rings!

'The farm' ever changed
Expanded and grew
From apples to horses
Sheep; ducklings too!

'I moved here to kennel'
His frequent lament
As the foals and lambs
Learned their mother's own scent.

An orphaned lamb 'Lucky'
The winter she spent
Bottled fed in the farm kitchen
A 'Saint' type event!

'Course puppies had been there
More than a few,
'So why not a lamb, Dear? '
'We're loving her too! '

Their love of their dogs
It grew and it grew.
And grandchildren learned
To whisper, cuddle and coo!

The visitors and family
Learned how to handle and groom.
And they all cherished dogs
From the womb to the tomb.

In a town called Grimsby
Lived a man with his boots.
And his LOVE with 'The Saint' started,
From Golden dog roots!
